Page edged in Atlantic Region championship finals

Slippery Rock women’s tennis standout Lois Page advanced to the finals of ITA Atlantic Region Championships before narrowly losing in the title match to Indiana’s Karolin Kirchtag.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Slippery Rock women's tennis standout Lois Page came just shy of winning the singles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Atlantic Region Championships Monday.

Entering the competition as the fourth overall seed, Page was narrowly edged in the final round by Karolin Kirchtag of Indiana University (Pa.). Page advanced to the finals after defeating Tiscornia Charleston of Charleston earlier in the day in the semifinals.

Page took the first set from Kirchtag 7-6 (7-2) before falling in the second set 6-4 to set up a third-set tiebreaker. Page and Kirchtag played even to 7-7 to begin the tiebreaker, but Kirchtag was able to capture the final three points on the way to an eventual 10-7 victory.

In what was her first full weekend of competition of the 2021 season, Page produced an impressive 4-1 singles record in addition to a 2-1 mark in doubles play at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships, a three-day event that featured the top women's tennis talent from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and Mountain East Conference.

Monday marked the second time in Page's career that she reached a tournament final at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships; she previously partnered with Viola Lugmayr to win the 2019 doubles championship en route to becoming an All-American.

Also taking part in the final day of the championships on Monday was Georgie Lancaster, who competed against Mathilde Simon of Charleston in the "B" tournament semifinals for the right to play Bluefield State's Virginia Zanotti in the finals of that bracket. Results from the B draw have not yet been made available by tournament host Millersville University. Full results will be updated as information becomes available.

Slippery Rock will conclude the individual portion of its 2021-22 schedule at the PSAC Championships Oct 2-4 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
