Rock swept by #7 Seton Hill

The Slippery Rock baseball team was swept by seventh-ranked Seton Hill in a PSAC West doubleheader Tuesday at Jack Critchfield Park.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University baseball team was swept by seventh-ranked Seton Hill University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division doubleheader Tuesday at Jack Critchfield Park.

In what was a rain-soaked day that included several delays, Slippery Rock lost the opener in a close 8-5 decision before falling 7-2 in game two.

Slippery Rock falls to 19-14 overall and 10-12 in the PSAC West while the Griffins improve to 27-4 overall and 19-4 in league games following its sweep.

The Rock produced 18 hits over the doubleheader. Abraham Mow led the way with a 4-for-6 day at the plate that included one run scored, one home run and four RBI. Mow now leads SRU with seven home runs this season. His home run Tuesday also moved him past Brad Lowe (1998-99) for eighth place in program history for home runs in a career with 24.

Luke Trueman also registered a four-hit doubleheader as part of a 4-for-7 performance at the plate that saw SRU's top two-way player score one run and drive in another.

Koby Bubash continued his hot streak at the plate by going 3-for-6 with two runs, two RBI and two doubles. Bubash has now posted hits in seven straight games to raise his batting average 66 points to .310.

Rounding out The Rock's top performers at the plate Tuesday was Alex Robenolt, who was 3-for-7 with one run and his team-leading 17th double of the season.

GAME ONE: Seton Hill 8 – Slippery Rock 5
The high-powered SRU offense went toe-to-toe with the Griffins, but Seton Hill was ultimately able earn an 8-5 win in game one.

Mow got SRU started on a high note via a leadoff home run in the first inning, but Seton Hill promptly answered Mow's blast with a five-run second inning that was highlighted by a two-run home run by Tommy Pellis.

Slippery Rock attempted a rally of its own in the bottom half of the inning as SRU plated three runs courtesy of a two-run double by Bubash and an RBI-single by Mow to make it a 5-4 contest heading into the third inning.

However, SHU put any thoughts of a Rock comeback to rest by scoring three runs over the next two innings to take a four-run lead it would never relinquish en route to an eventual 8-5 win. Mow supplied SRU's final run of the game by way of a sacrifice fly that scored Joel Spishock in the sixth inning.

Mow was a flawless 3-for-3 in the opener with one run, three RBI and one home run. Trueman and Robenolt totaled multi-hit games as well by going 3-for-4 and 2-for-4, respectively. Spishock, Bubash, Connor Hamilton and Jon Kozarian chipped in one hit apiece with Spishock walking once and Bubash also driving in two runs.

Starting pitcher Luke Schrock (0-1) made his collegiate debut for SRU. He went three innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three batters.

Nolan Brannon made his second appearance in as many days when he came on for Schrock and scattered one run over 2.1 innings. Zach Wilson, who was also making his debut for The Rock, closed out the game by pitching 1.2 scoreless innings.

Pellis hit two home runs for Seton Hill while Caleb Negley (2-0) earned the victory with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief work out of the Griffins' bullpen.

GAME TWO: Seton Hill 7 – Slippery Rock 2
Seton Hill ended the day by picking up a 7-2 win in game two to leave Slippery Rock with the doubleheader sweep.

Bubash accounted for two of The Rock's six hits in the nightcap as the starting shortstop went 2-for-3 with one run and a double, his fifth in the last six games.

Trueman and Mow were both 1-for-3 with one RBI while Kozarian and Robenolt were responsible for Slippery Rock's other two hits. Mow, Kozarian and Quentin Brown also drew one walk each.

Andrew Shivak (1-2) was the pitcher of record for SRU after giving up five runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Delaney came on for Shivak in the third and surrendered two runs over 1.2 innings. JT Wolke finished the contest for The Rock by throwing three shutout innings.

With the game tied at 0-0 entering the third inning, Seton Hill exploded for six runs capped off by Orndorff's grand slam. The Griffins scored an additional run in the fifth before Slippery Rock broke the shutout with runs in constitutive innings off of RBI-hits by Mow and Trueman on the way to a 7-2 final score.

Marshall McGraw (3-0) struck out five batters while giving up just two runs over six innings for Seton Hill.

Slippery Rock will have two days off before finishing the regular season with six games over three days. SRU will first play a four-game series against Indiana University (Pa.) Friday and Saturday followed by a doubleheader Sunday at Clarion. A strong finish to the season for The Rock could be enough to clinch a spot in the upcoming PSAC Tournament.
