Slippery Rock struck quickly scoring the game opening goal at 2:27 on a corner kick that was sent into the box by Skillicorn and headed home by Moeller for his third goal of the season.

The Golden Knights followed with a goal of their own soon after in the 21st minute when Bek Nulanbek sent a corner kick attempt to Sergio Del Castillo to net the game tying point.

Gannon would go on to score what would be the final goal of the match with less than 10 minutes to play in the first period when Charlie Petersen laid a ball out of the reach of Aly to close out the first half.

Coming out of the break, The Rock and Golden Knights entered a tightly contested defensive battle with Slippery Rock successfully fending off nine shots while testing Gannon goalkeeper David Syntelien with three shots of their own.

After a back-and-forth second period in which The Rock held tough against nationally ranked Gannon, neither team would score again sealing the 2-1 Golden Knight victory.
