SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team closed out its 2021 season with a 5-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference loss at No. 1 Shippensburg University Saturday.

Slippery Rock ends the season with a 7-9 overall record and a 4-6 mark in the PSAC. SRU's seven wins represent its highest win total dating back to the 2017 season. Shippensburg, the top-ranked team in the nation, remains undefeated at 16-0 overall and 10-0 in league games.

Shippensburg took a two-goal lead into halftime before adding three additional insurance goals in the third quarter on the way to the 5-0 win.

Grace Burker matched her previous season-high total with eight saves over 60 minutes. Â

As a team, nationally ranked Shippensburg held advantages over The Rock in total shots (25-2), shots on goal (13-0) and penalty corners (18-5). Jenna Sluymer recorded a hat trick to lead the Raiders.

Saturday's game marked the final collegiate contests for The Rock's 2021 senior class of
Lauren Marks,
Hannah Nurse,
Haley Plitt,
Holly Stiller,
Abby Thomas and
Jessie Trube. Trube leaves The Rock ranked sixth in program history for points in a career with 48 as well as fifth in total goals at 23.
