SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Walsh University in a non-conference matchup Thursday evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.Â
The Cavaliers got on the board early in the contest on a Hannah Bowman goal in the seventh minute off of a cross from Sabrina Ortenzi. Rock goalkeeper
Emma Yoder would settle in following the early score, recording five saves over the next 83 minutes.
Slippery Rock (0-1-0) had numerous close scoring opportunities against the Cavalier (1-0-0) defense.
Jordyn Minda had back-to-back shots saved in the 19th and 22nd minute and
Rachel Edge headed a shot that nearly beat Walsh keeper Mickey McClanahan but was tipped away to the right in the 66th minute.
McClanahan matched the effort of The Rock's offense throughout the contest, finishing with 10 saves, including a final stop on a
Madison Johnson attempt with 1:05 left to play.Â

Bowman supplied nearly all of the offense for the Cavaliers, finishing with four shots including three on goal. Brianna Sanborn also added three shots, two being on goal.

For the game, Slippery Rock finished with an advantage over Walsh in total shots (15-9), shots on goal (10-6) and corner kicks (4-2).
Minda led the way for SRU four shots, three of which were on goal, she was followed by Edge and
Ashley Rea who added two shots on goal apeice. Johnson,
Miranda Gallucci, and
Sofia Harrison chipped in one shot on goal each.Â
Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from the loss, traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Sunday.Â

• Yoder's five saves marks her fourth career game with five or more saves.
