KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost on the road to No. 7 Kutztown University, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Andre Reed Stadium.

The loss drops The Rock's record to 1-2 in 2019. The nationally ranked Golden Bears improve to 3-1 with the win.

Kutztown combined a pair of first-half goals, an insurance score in the third quarter and a defensive effort that limited Slippery Rock to just one shot attempt to earn its third consecutive win.

Courtney Page accounted for The Rock's lone attempt on the day with a shot in the 57th minute. The duo of
Kalie Reed and
Holly Stiller both recorded defensive saves for The Rock as well.

Goalkeeper
Maddie Murphy played the first three quarters of Friday's contest, allowing three goals and making two saves in 45 minutes.
Hannah Nurse came on for Murphy in the fourth quarter and proceeded to make two saves while not allowing a goal in 15 minutes of playing time.

Mackenzie Fuhrman had a hand in Kutztown's first two goals. She opened the contest by scoring her second goal of the season in the 14th minute before assisting on a Kyra Wozniak goal four minutes later to give KU a 2-0 lead it would carry into halftime. Izzy Radel rounded out KU's goal scorers with a strike at 40:52 off of an assist by Wozniak.

For the game, Kutztown held advantages over The Rock in total shots (15-1), shots on goal (9-0) and penalty corners (10-2).

Slippery Rock is back in action 12 p.m. Saturday at No. 3 East Stroudsburg University.
