SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University baseball team split a non-conference home doubleheader Wednesday against Bloomsburg University at Jack Critchfield Park.

Following a 12-6 loss in the opener, Slippery Rock (13-22) rebounded to take game two, 12-11, from the Huskies (26-10) in eight innings.

The quartet of Abraham Mow, Tyler Merigliano, Ray Scala and Joe Campagna all collected hits in both ends of the doubleheader for The Rock.

Mow had three hits over the doubleheader, including a triple and a home run, while driving in six runs. The home run was Mow's second in the last three games and sixth on the year overall.

Merigliano continued his hot streak for SRU, going 4-for-7 with two runs scored, three RBI, one home run and a pair of walks. Scala was an impressive 5-for-7 with three runs, two RBI, a stolen base and a double.

Campagna stretched his reached base streak to 35 games after a 2-for-4, four-run, two-RBI, one-home run, four-walk day.

GAME ONE: Bloomsburg 12 – Slippery Rock 6
Slippery Rock held a one-run advantage over the Huskies through three innings, but surrendered 11 runs over the final four innings as Bloomsburg rallied for a 12-6 victory.

Merigliano went 3-for-4 with one run, a double and one home run to pace The Rock in the opener. Scala was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to go with a stolen base.

Campagna, Mow and Zach Mancz were responsible for SRU's other three hits with Campagna's coming by way of a home run, his team-leading eighth of the year. Additionally, Campagna also walked twice, as did leadoff hitter Frankie Jezioro.

Colin Cain made his fourth start of the season on the mound for The Rock in game one. He lasted four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks. Luke Trueman (0-3) came on for Cain in the fifth and surrendered five runs in the loss. Derek Boben pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up two runs. All three Rock hurlers recorded two strikeouts apiece.

Trailing 5-3, Slippery Rock tied the game in the fifth inning when Merigliano shot a two-run double down the left field line. However, the tie was short-lived as the Huskies proceeded to score five runs in the sixth inning to secure the eventual six-run win.

Trey Hinkle (4-0) pitched two scoreless innings out of the Bloomsburg bullpen for the win.

GAME TWO: Slippery Rock 13 – Bloomsburg 12 (8 Innings)
The nightcap was a back-and-forth contest in which both teams held leads before Slippery Rock was able to clinch the split against the Atlantic Region's third-ranked team in eight innings, 13-12.

Slippery Rock appeared poised to cruise to a convincing win early on as SRU jumped out to an early 7-1 lead after two innings of play. However, the Huskies battled back by plating nine of the next 12 runs to take a 10-9 lead of their own through four-and-a-half completed innings.

SRU proceeded to load the bases in the bottom of the fifth before Mow delivered a bases-clearing triple that pushed The Rock back in front of the Huskies, 12-10. Slippery Rock held Bloomsburg without a run in the sixth inning, but a two-run rally by the Huskies in the top of the seventh as well as an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the frame sent the game into extra innings knotted at 12-12.

Freshman pitcher Andy McClymonds came out of Slippery Rock's bullpen and tossed a perfect eighth inning to keep Bloomsburg in check, bringing SRU to the plate with a chance to end the game.

Slippery Rock's offense would not waste the opportunity as Merigliano hit a leadoff single followed by walks from Cain and Mancz to load the bases with no outs and Jon Kozarian coming up. Kozarian stepped to the plate and showed great patience as the freshman took four consecutive walks to bring in the game's winning run via a walk off-walk.

Mow had a multi-hit game and drove in six runs in game two. Jezioro, Scala and Trueman all had two-hit showings as well with Kozarian, Cain, Merigliano and Campagna producing one hit apiece.

Joe Dombrowski, Ricky Mineo and Alex Worthington combined to pitch the first seven innings of the victory before giving way to McClymonds in the eighth. McClymonds, who struck out two batters in his lone inning, improved to 2-1 in 2019 with the win.

Slippery Rock will now turn its focus to a four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division series against Indiana University (Pa.). SRU will host the Crimson Hawks for a doubleheader Friday at Jack Critchfield Park before playing a pair of games at IUP on Saturday. First pitch of game one on both days is set for 1 p.m.
