SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team picked up a big 7-0 Atlantic Region victory Sunday against West Liberty University at the SRU Tennis Courts.
 
Slippery Rock improves to 8-4 on the season with the victory while West Liberty drops to 7-3 on the year. Sunday's match was a battle of regionally ranked foes as SRU entered the contest ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while WLU was slotted close behind in seventh place.
 
SRU recorded three straight 6-2 wins in the doubles portion of Sunday's match to easily earn the first point of the match.
 
Lauren Fadden and Allie Welch got The Rock off to a fast start with a victory in the third flight over Laura Huwe and Alex Olson. Lacey Cohen and Olivia Warner then proceeded to clinch the doubles point for SRU with their win out of the second flight over Carleyah McLean and Luisa Agudelo.
 
Slippery Rock finished off the doubles sweep when Viola Lugmayr and Lois Page claimed a win against Raissa Wagner and Anita Ponti in the top flight. Page and Lugmayr are now 12-5 on the year overall and 9-3 in dual matches.
 
Welch earned The Rock's first singles point when she bested Olson 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth flight. Lugmayr then stretched Slippery Rock's lead out to 3-0 by downing Ponti 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
 
Page followed Lugmayr with a win of her own in the third flight against Huwe 7-6, 6-2. Cohen would pick up the match-clinching point for The Rock in the first flight with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Wagner.
 
Warner and Fadden closed out the day for SRU with respective wins in the fourth and fifth flights. Warner bettered McLean 7-6, 6-1 and Fadden defeated Agudelo 6-2, 5-7, 10-6. With her win, Warner improved her record to 13-5 in 2018-19.
 
Slippery Rock will look to pick up its third win in its last four matches when it travels to Indiana University (Pa.) 12 p.m. Saturday for what will be The Rock's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opener.
