CLARION, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team played a doubleheader at Clarion University Thursday afternoon and won both games after putting up 36 combined runs. After tallying 23 runs in game one, SRU posted 13 runs in game two en route to the sweep.

Megan Brown,
Adeline Nicholson,
Maggie Moore and
Becca Roesch each tallied multi-hit games in game one. Moore registered a game-high five RBI, while Nicholson, Roesch and
Kailey Myers recorded three apiece.
Slippery Rock's 23 runs in the game are the most the team's scored in a contest since it tallied 20 on April 14, 2016 against Edinboro. SRU's 23 runs are also the most the team has scored under head coach,
Stacey Rice.
In game two, SRU plated 13 runs and received two-RBI games from Myers and
Aubrey Allen on the way to a 13-2 victory.
Chloe Sharman also registered her second career victory after five strong innings of work.
With the wins, Slippery Rock improves to 8-11 on the season and 2-0 on the road.
Game One: Slippery Rock 23 – Clarion 6 (5 innings)
SRU's bats were rolling in game one as it registered 18 hits. Slippery Rock scored runs in each of the five innings, while
Camie Shumaker got the win in the circle.
In the first, SRU tallied six runs on four hits. Nicholson drove in a run with an RBI single, and later in the inning, Moore singled to right scoring two. Roesch later joined the hit parade with an RBI double and The Rock rounded-out scoring in the inning with a pair of sacrifice flies from Myers and Allen.
Clarion answered back with one run in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second, but SRU's offense kept hitting.
After posting just one run in the top of the second, Slippery Rock added five more on three hits in the third. Nicholson added to her RBI total with a two RBI single. Later in the inning, Roesch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score a run. Myers then walked in a run and SRU took a 12-3 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Clarion would add a trio of runs, but SRU's biggest inning was yet to come.
The Rock's monster inning was in the top of the fourth, when they tallied seven runs. Moore and
Regan Hozak each tallied a pair of RBI's in the inning, while Brown and
Caitlyn MacKelvey registered one apiece. The other run was scored on a wild pitch.
SRU's last additions to the score were four runs on five hits in the top of the fifth, and Shumaker shut the door in the fifth for the win, 23-6.
Shumaker (W, 6-5) earned the win surrendering six runs (two earned) on 10 hits and two walks while punching out seven.
Macy Rubin (L, 0-7) took the loss allowing 12 runs (10 earned) on nine hits and six walks.
Game Two: Slippery Rock 13 – Clarion 2 (5 innings)
The Rock ripped seven hits and plated 13 runs in the second game while recording multi-hit performances from Nicholson and MacKelvey.
Following one run in each of the first two innings, SRU exploded for five runs in the top of the third. The Rock tallied just two hits in the inning, but they were key, as they set up the chance to manufacture runs. Roesch singled and Nicholson doubled putting two runners on to start the frame. The Rock would then score all their runs on five walks, a wild pitch and a fielder's choice going up, 7-1.
In the fourth, Slippery Rock added two after a wild pitch scored Moore, and MacKelvey singled in a a run.
SRU tallied four more in the top of the fifth on two hits. Myers got hit by a pitch scoring in a run, and Allen followed that up with two-RBI single. Guglielmino would later hit a sacrifice fly to put The Rock ahead, 13-1.
Clarion added one run in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't enough to keep the game going and Slippery Rock held on for the win, 13-1.
Sharman (W, 2-1) earned the win allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.
Kira Smith (L, 0-3) took the loss for Clarion surrendering six runs (five earned) on three hits and five walks.

Slippery Rock will play its first home games of the year when it battles Lock Haven Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
