SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Every active player on the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team scored at least four points on the way to a 98-90 non-conference victory over Salem University Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.
Slippery Rock improves to 11-16 on the season overall with the win while Salem drops to 8-19 in 2018-19 with the loss. Slippery Rock is now guaranteed to finish the year with at least 11 victories for the fourth time in the last five years. The last time the program accomplished such a feat was a four-year stretch from 1998-02.
The eight-point margin is deceiving as Slippery Rock controlled the entire game. SRU, which trailed for just 51 seconds Wednesday, led 32-9 after the first quarter, took a 23-point lead into halftime and was ahead 75-45 midway through the third quarter before The Rock brought in its reserves while Salem ran its normal rotation for the final 15 minutes of competition.
The Rock's 98 points were the 17th most scored in a single-game in program history and the most since a 98-71 win against Penn State Beaver on Nov. 29, 2014.
In addition to its impressive point total, Slippery Rock also passed out a season-high 21 assists after shooting 47.3 percent (35-for-74) overall. Included in the field goal total were seven 3-pointers. Slippery Rock was also 21-for-32 (65.6 percent) at the foul line in addition to holding advantages over the Tigers in points in the paint (44-16) and fast break points (16).
Slippery Rock, which entered the game ranked second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in turnovers per game, made just 13 miscues while forcing Salem into 18 mistakes of its own.
Four Rock players finished in double figures led by
Ciara Patterson, who went for 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Patterson connected on four 3-pointers to move into third place in school single-season history for 3-pointers made with 68.
Brooke Hinderliter scored 15 points, passed out three assists and made one steal in just 21 minutes of playing time.
Morgan Henderson totaled 14 points, pulled in five rebounds and came away with a pair of steals while
Olivia Fusaro rounded out The Rock's top scorers with 10 points. Fusaro also produced three steals and four rebounds.
Wednesday also marked the 111th game played in Henderson's career: a program record.
Madison Johnson had an extremely productive 13 minutes of action Wednesday, tallying nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Daeja Quick also did a little bit of everything for The Rock with six points, six rebounds, four assists and one block.
Off the bench,
Brittany Andrews collected six points and six rebounds,
Karington Ketterer added seven points, four rebounds and a block,
Skyla O'Connor scored six points, three of which came off of her first 3-pointer of the season, and
Marissa Hopson scored four points to go with three assists.
Slippery Rock limited Salem to a 35.2 field goal percentage (31-for-88) and a 31.1 percent (14-for-45) showing from 3-point range. However, Salem hauled in 55 rebounds, 30 of which came on the offensive glass, and scored 35 second chance points. The Tigers were led by Daniela Quesada-Villalobos, who scored a team-high 19 points.
SRU will now turn its focus a 1 p.m. Saturday against Gannon University at Morrow Field House in The Rock's season finale.
