SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game to Shippensburg University, 74-60, Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.

The loss drops The Rock's record to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC while the Raiders improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league competition.

With the scored tied 15-15 after one quarter of play, Shippensburg opened the second quarter on a 10-4 run to open a 25-19 lead it would not relinquish as the Raiders took a 36-32 advantage into halftime before slowly increasing its lead throughout the second half, culminating with a 16-point, 62-46, edge with 7:36 remaining in regulation.

Slippery Rock mounted its comeback bid midway through the fourth quarter in the form of an impressive 14-4 run over a five-minute stretch to cut the Raiders' lead down to just six points at 66-60 with 2:25 left to play. The trio of
Brooke Hinderliter,
Daeja Quick and
LeeAnn Gibson combined to score all 14 points in the spurt with Hinderliter accounting for six points while Gibson and Quick added four apiece.

However, The Rock's late run ended there as SRU missed its final three 3-point attempts in the game's closing moments while Shippensburg, despite missing three of four free throws down the stretch, converted three straight field goals to close out the 74-60 road win.

The duo of Hindelriter and
Madison Johnson paced The Rock's offensive efforts Saturday by combined to score 35 points. Hinderliter went for 18 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block while Johnson added 17 points and a pair of rebounds.
With her 18-point showing Saturday, Hinderliter moved past Pam Andersen (1992-96) and into 11th place in program history for points in a career with 1,280. She is 10 points away from jumping Jodi Kest (1980-84) for 10th place. Â

Gibson was Slippery Rock's third-leading scorer after an eight-point, five-rebound, three-steal performance. Quick did a little bit of everything on the court, totaling seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal. Fellow starter
Karington Ketterer pulled down six rebounds in addition to making two steals and scoring a pair of points.

Off the bench,
Anyah Curd grabbed six rebounds,
Kasch Harris made two steals,
Olivia Fusaro scored three points and
Brittany Andrews chipped in two points to round out The Rock's top contributors.

SRU ended the game shooting 36.8 percent (21-for-57) from the field overall, 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from 3-point territory and 68.2 percent (15-for-22) at the foul line while holding an 11-5 edge over the Raiders in steals to go with a 14-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

Ariel Jones scored 30 points to lead Shippensburg. As a team, the Raiders shot 38.8 percent (26-for-67) from the field, 25 percent (4-for-16) from distance and 64.3 percent (18-for-28) at the foul line.

Shippensburg overcame 16 turnovers by forcing The Rock into 17 miscues of their own. The Raiders also held a 47-36 advantage over SRU in rebounding with 17 of the boards coming on the offensive glass.

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from Saturday's loss with a win when it hosts Lock Haven University 1 p.m. Sunday at Morrow Field House.
