GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team fell on the road to Seton Hill University, 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Slippery Rock falls to 4-6-2 overall with a 1-3-0 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Seton Hill improves to 6-5-1 with a 2-2-1 record in conference play with the win.

SRU was led on offense by
Alejandro Fernandez who scored for the third-consecutive game and
Cory Olix who tied Fernandez for the team lead in shots with two.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle with Slippery Rock defending the first five Griffin shots while Seton Hill turned away two attempts by The Rock.
Â
SRU opened the scoring when Fernandez lined a free kick to the right top corner of the goal, giving Slippery Rock a 1-0 advantage in the 44th minute.

SHU added a shot attempt just before the break, but Rock goalkeeper
Derek Hoffman turned away the attempt, maintaining the 1-0 Slippery Rock lead at the half.

The Rock offense came out firing in the second half, recording the first three shots following halftime. The Seton Hill defense turned away all three attempts with SHU goalkeeper Bobby White leading the charge with two saves to open the half.

The Griffin offense fed off the effort from its defense, tying the score at 1-1 in the 49th minute when Alex Dysen netted his first score of 2019 on a pass from Liam Kettle.

SRU continued to pressure the Seton Hill defense, adding four shots and two corner kick attempts following the goal.

The Rock offense ultimately couldn't convert before the Griffins added another score in the 73rd minute when Kettle played a pass from Tormod Simonsen for his first goal of the season.

A corner kick attempt and a
Mo Kanani shot on goal in the final minute were turned away by SHU, securing the 2-1 victory for Seton Hill.

The Griffins held advantages in total shots (11-10) and shots on goal (8-3) while The Rock won the corner kick battle (3-2). Hoffman ended the game with five saves in goal for The Rock in his first collegiate start.

Slippery Rock returns to action when it hosts Mercyhurst University for a PSAC Western Division matchup at James Egli Field 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
