WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team was defeated by West Chester University today, 4-0, in a non-conference game at Vonnie Gros Field.
SRU falls to 4-2 while WCU improves to 4-1 on the season.
Liz Wolfe and
Haley Plitt registered a defensive save apiece in the loss, while goalkeeper
Maddie Murphy made 14 saves. Slippery Rock did not record a shot in the contest.
The Golden Rams got on the board in the 25th minute when Katie Thompson captured her third goal of the season off assists by Caitie McNamara and Lily Feldman.
At 41:44, McNamara scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Feldman making it a 2-0 WCU lead.
In the 54th minute, Sophie Ruppert scored off a deflection in front of the cage to give West Chester a 3-0 advantage.
The Golden Rams' final score was at 64:25 as Kaitlin Hatch tallied her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke, helping the team to its 4-0 shutout of The Rock.
NOTES
- SRU's two defensive saves in the contest were its first two in 2018.
- Wolfe is now fourth all-time in Slippery Rock field hockey history in career defensive saves with 14.
- Murphy's 14 saves in the game were a career-high.
- Slippery Rock did not record a shot in a game for the first time since Sept. 23, 2014 in a contest against Shippensburg.
