SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team outshot Lake Erie College by a 16-9 margin, but The Storm converted a pair of timely goals and held off a late rally by The Rock for a 2-1 victory Saturday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Slippery Rock (0-2) carried play for much of the first half and posted an 8-3 edge in shots over the opening 45 minutes, but Lake Erie (2-0) swung momentum back in its favor after stopping a penalty shot near in the 25th minute. SRU was awarded the try after handball in the box, but
George Oakley's attempt was saved by a diving effort from Lake Erie keeper Tom John.

The Storm used that momentum and found a goal on one of their only chances of the opening period when Sander Van der Sluij slipped a shot into the left side of the net off an assist from Jonathon Carr in the 38th minute.

Lake Erie added a second tally in the 67th minute when Ezekiel Ebenezer finished off an assist from Amoshi Loni to make it 2-0.

Slippery Rock had a number of chances saved by John before finally breaking through in the 73rd minute.
Tyler Ramer fired a shot on goal that was saved out by defender Dewayne Scott, but landed directly on the foot of
Hayden Seifert, who fired it home for the first SRU goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 with just over 17 minutes to play.

The Rock would get one more solid chance at the equalizer in the 76th minute, but John made the save to preserve the win.
SRU finished with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
Matt Hunsberger made two saves in goal for SRU, while John made six saves in the win for Lake Erie.

Slippery Rock will look to get its first win of the season when Salem International visits James Egli Field Tuesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
