Toomer leads Rock by Millersville, 12-10

ShyAnne Toomer tallied four goals and one assist to pace Slippery Rock to a 12-10 victory on the road at Millersville Friday.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team evened its record in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at 3-3 with a 12-10 victory Friday afternoon on the road at Millersville University.
 
The Rock (7-3, 3-3 PSAC) rallied from an early 4-1 deficit to close the first half on a 6-2 run and added two early goals in the second half to cap an 8-2 run that put SRU out front 9-6 with 25:37 to play. The two teams traded goals from there with Millersville (7-4, 3-4 PSAC) never able to get closer than two goals the rest of the way.
 
The Marauders finished the game with advantages of 26-21 in shots and 16-8 in draw controls, but The Rock caused 13 turnovers, posted a 30-24 edge in ground balls and held Millersville to just 5-of-13 in free position attempts.

Emily Bitka was key in stopping eight free position attempts and finished the game with 12 saves, double that of her counterparts from Millersville. The Marauders entered the game averaging more than 16 goals per game on offense and settled for 10 Friday.
 
The Rock attack was paced by ShyAnne Toomer and Tia Torchia with Toomer leading the way with four goals and one assist. She also caused three turnovers and grabbed two ground balls. Torchia scored a hat trick and handed out one assist to go along with two draw controls and a game-high seven ground balls.
 
Bre Vodde also scored a hat trick and Danie Porath added one goal and one assist to cap the multiple point scorers. Francesca Lindelow tallied one goal and Kelly Muenster and Erin Brown each handed out one assist to round out the scorers.
 
Millersville got four goals and two assists from Sabrina Fusco and three goals and one assist from Kristen Butzner. Bryana Weston-Wyatt started the game in goal and allowed nine goals to go along with three saves in the first 34:23. Shannon Davis played the final 25:37 in goal, making three saves and allowing three goals.
 
Slippery Rock will have little time to enjoy the victory as it now prepares for another trip across the state Monday for a 1 p.m. game at Kutztown University.
