SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team set a new program record for single-season wins after closing the regular season with an 11-10 victory on the road at Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon.

The Rock's victory improves the team to 13-4 at the conclusion of the regular season and tops the 2017 team's former program record for wins in a single-season. SRU closes Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play with an 8-4 record and will be the No. 5 seed in the PSAC playoffs, setting up a road trip to No. 4 seed Lock Haven for a first round game Tuesday at 4 p.m. Shippensburg finishes its season with a 7-10 overall record and a 3-9 mark in league games.

Saturday's game featured a lengthy lightning delay in the second half that came at a key time for the hosts. SRU trailed 7-6 with 29:14 to play before putting together a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead with 17:22 to play. Shortly after, the lightning halted play and allowed Shippensburg to regroup.

The Raiders came out the delay and scored two quick goals to cut the lead to 10-9 with 10:14 to play. SRU responded with a goal from
Tori Penders with 3:25 to play that would stand as the game-winner after Shippensburg netted a goal with 2:30 to play. The hosts won the final draw control and got two shot attempts away, but missed the cage on both shots before SRU ran out the clock after a successful clear.

The game was fairly even from the opening draw with neither team posting a definitive advantage in any area. Slippery Rock finished with advantages of 29-28 in shots and 24-21 in ground balls, while Shippensburg managed a 13-10 edge in draw controls.

Penders led The Rock with a total of four goals, while
Bre Vodde added two goals and two assists.
Francesca Lindelow scored two goals and
ShyAnne Toomer added one goal and one assist to cap the multiple point scorers.

Tia Torchia and
Audrey Napp each tallied one goal and
Erin Brown and
Kelly Muenster were each credited with one assist to round out the scorers.

Emily Bitka improved to 11-4 on the year in goal after recording 11 saves.

Shippensburg was led by T.J. Johnson with two goals and two assists, Allison Fugate with two goals and one assist and Jordan Kengor with two goals. KiKI Brasher took the loss in goal after recording nine saves.

Slippery Rock will now turn its focus to the playoffs for just the second time since the sport returned to the varsity level in 2007. The Rock made their playoff debut last spring, bowing out with a one-goal loss in the first round. First draw is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lock Haven and the winner will face No. 1 West Chester in the semifinals Friday.
