SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team lost game one, 5-4, but earned a victory in game two, 4-2, over Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play Friday afternoon at the SRU Softball Complex.

After Seton Hill scored in the first inning of game one, Slippery Rock tallied two runs in both the fourth and fifth inning, but was unable to tie the game and lost, 5-4.
Becca Roesch and
Kailey Myers registered two RBI apiece, and Roesch clubbed her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the loss.

The Rock struck first in game two, and had some fine performances in the circle from
Brooke Dawson,
Paige Flore and
Camie Shumaker in the 4-2 victory. Myers was 1-for-2 with an RBI single and
Emily Nagle went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Following the split, Slippery Rock improves to 15-14 on the year and 2-4 in PSAC West play, while Seton Hill is now 13-11 overall and 5-5 in division games.

GAME ONE: Seton Hill 5 – Slippery Rock 4
Seton Hill tallied five unearned runs in the first inning and was able to hold-off Slippery Rock's comeback tallying the victory.

Brooke Bower reached on an error to lead off the game, and following an out, Bower stole second and Chelsea Skrabak walked to put two runners on. SRU got the next batter out, but Paige Hertzog doubled to centerfield scoring Bower. Ashley Perillo walked to load the bases and Chelsea Rohan clubbed a grand slam over the centerfield wall to give SHU a big 5-0 lead.

The Griffins' Devyn Terry was cruising in the circle taking a no-hitter into the fourth inning. She recorded the first out, but Myers singled up the middle. Roesch later homered over the left field wall cutting the lead to 5-2.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Nagle walked,
Megan Brown singled and the left fielder misplayed it allowing Nagle and Brown to advance to third and second, respectively. Myers then drove them both in with an RBI single to right field cutting the deficit to one.

Unfortunately, Slippery Rock went down in order in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings falling to Seton Hill, 5-4.

Shumaker (5-4) took the loss going 6.2 innings surrendering five runs (none earned) on eight hits and five walks while striking out three.

Terry (6-6) picked up the win hurling a complete-game allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while punching out two.

GAME TWO: Slippery Rock 4 – Seton Hill 2
Both teams combined for six errors in the contest for a total of two earned runs. After taking the lead early on, SHU later tied the game, but SRU put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for a 4-2 victory.

Slippery Rock got the bats going early as Nagle led off the bottom of the first with a single. She's now reached base safely in 24 straight games. Brown later reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Myers then singled up the middle to drive her in giving The Rock a 1-0 advantage.

Dawson was cruising early on allowing just three baserunners through the first four innings.

In the top of the fifth, Ashley Perillo tallied a single to start the frame. Rohan dropped down a sacrifice bunt moving pinch runner Nichole McClendon to second. Laken Ryen then reached on a throwing error that scored McClendon knotting the score, 1-1. Following another error, Flore entered the game to minimize the damage. She then walked Bower, but pinch hitter Samantha Estupinian lined into an unassisted double play.

Slippery Rock then responded in the bottom of the fifth.
Caitlyn MacKelvey reached on an error to start the inning and stole second. After a groundout, Nagle singled to left field to score MacKelvey. Brown reached on a throwing error to score Nagle. Myers walked, and on the pitch, Brown took off for third base, but the catcher threw the ball into left field allowing her to score. SRU took a 4-1 lead.

Seton Hill got one run back in the top of the sixth, but Shumaker entered in the top of the seventh and went 1-2-3 to lock up the win, 4-2. The freshman earned her second save of 2018.

Dawson went 4.1 innings surrendering one run (unearned) on two hits and one walk while striking out three in the no-decision.

Flore (4-1) tallied the win going 1.2 innings allowing one run on two hits.

Skyla Greco (3-3) earned the loss giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while punching out three.

SRU is back in action tomorrow with contests against California (Pa.). Although listed as away games, the doubleheader will be played at the SRU Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
