Rock cruises by Young Harris, 18-6

Emily Bitka made 16 saves and allowed just six goals to help propel The Rock to a convincing 18-6 win on the road at Young Harris Monday.

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten on the year with an 18-6 victory Monday afternoon at Young Harris College in Georgia.
 
The Rock improved to 4-0 with their best win of the season so far. Young Harris dropped its third straight game to fall to 5-3 overall, but those other two losses both came on the road at the No. 1 and No. 6 teams in the national rankings.
 
Slippery Rock scored just 13 seconds into the game and would never trail Monday. The two teams traded early goals until it was 2-2 with 23:25 to play in the opening half before The Rock burst the game open with a 7-0 run to end the period with a 9-2 lead.
 
SRU added one more early in the second half to cap an 8-0 run and Young Harris would never get closer than six goals the rest of the way.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with a 32-30 advantage in total shots and was 20-of-25 on clear attempts. Young Harris posted a 23-17 edge in ground balls and was 16-of-21 on the clear. Both teams were credited with 13 draw controls.
 
One of the biggest advantages for The Rock was between the posts as Emily Bitka recorded 16 saves and allowed just six goals in the complete game effort to improve to 4-0 on the year. Young Harris played two keepers that each allowed nine goals and the duo combined to make just seven saves.
 
The Rock attack was led by Ally Culhane with six points on three goals and three assists and ShyAnne Toomer with four goals and one assist. Kelly Muenster added three goals and two assists, Tia Torchia scored three goals and Jasey Sanders added two goals.
 
Bre Vodde netted one goal and handed out one assist, Tori Penders and Jordan Grey each scored one goal and Caitlyn Byerly added one assist to cap the point scorers.
 
Young Harris was led by Anna Luckie, who was the lone player to record multiple points with one goal and one assist. Rachel Robb took the loss in goal after allowing nine goals and recording three saves in just shy of 36 minutes in net.
 
Slippery Rock will return home to open conference play this Saturday (March 17) when No. 13 West Chester visits for a 1 p.m. game.
