ASHLAND, Ohio - The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team closed out the Ashland Thanksgiving Tournament with a 118-62 loss to host Ashland University, the second ranked team in the nation, Sunday.

Ashland jumped out to a 28-13 lead following the first quarter on the way to its 42nd consecutive home victory, and the 76th win in its last 77 contests.

The Rock, which beat Wayne State on day one of the Ashland Tournament, exits the weekend with a 2-4 overall record. The Golden Eagles improve to 5-0 with the win.

The duo of junior guard
Brooke Hinderliter and redshirt senior guard
Ciara Patterson paced The Rock's efforts on Sunday. Hinderliter scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and passed out two assists while Patterson went for 13 points in addition to making two steals.

Patterson has now recorded at least two steals in five of SRU's six games this season. Likewise, Hinderliter has scored a minimum of 17 points in five of The Rock's six outings in 2018-19.

Marissa Hopson scored nine points in just nine minutes of playing time off the bench. Sophomore guards
Daeja Quick and
Brittany Andrews rounded out The Rock's top scorers with seven and five points, respectively.

For the game, Slippery Rock shot 28.4 percent (19-for-67) from the field overall, 20.8 percent (5-for-24) from 3-point range and 67.9 percent (19-for-28) from the free throw line. SRU forced Ashland, which came into the game averaging just nine turnovers per contest, into 14 miscues while making just 15 turnovers of their own.

Ashland, which shot 54 percent from the field overall Sunday, made 17 of its 35 3-point attempts while holding a 59-31 edge in rebounding over The Rock. The Golden Eagles were led by Sara Loomis, who had a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds.

With the majority of its non-conference schedule now over, Slippery Rock will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
competition on the road 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at East Stroudsburg University. Following the ESU game, Slippery Rock will embark on a season-long five-game homestand.
