Rock falls 2-0 against Shippensburg to conclude season

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team finished its season with 2-0 loss against PSAC opponent Shippensburg Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Prior to the game, seniors Devin Hoffman, Kenton Keeslar, Justin Minda and George Oakley were honored for their contributions to the SRU men’s soccer program.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team finished its season with a 2-0 loss against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Shippensburg University Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Prior to the game seniors Devin Hoffman, Kenton Keeslar, Justin Minda and George Oakley were honored for their contributions to the SRU men's soccer program.
 
Shippensburg scored one goal in the first half and one in the second to gather the win. Despite the loss, SRU outshot SHIP, 13-7.
 
In the 32nd minute, the Raiders' Owen Iacobelli scored a goal off a cross from Cory Ferguson to put SHIP ahead.
 
SRU nearly equalized when Cory Olix put a shot just high of the net. The Rock trailed Shippensburg 1-0 heading into the break.
 
Slippery Rock continued pressure in the second half with shots from Keeslar, Oakley, Alexander Vilchek, Hayden Seifert and Hector Buchter, but none were able to fall.
 
Then, in the 89th minute, Shippensburg put the game away when Iacobelli fired a shot off a free kick into the back of the net to give the Raiders a 2-0 advantage.
 
Vilchek led the team in shots with four while Keeslar tallied two. Buchter, Minda, Seifert, Olix, Anthony Werth and Dan Schearer each registered one apiece.
 
With the loss, Slippery Rock finishes the season with a 6-10-2 overall record and a 4-6-1 PSAC mark while Shippensburg improves to 10-3-3 overall and 6-2-3 in league games.
