The Slippery Rock field hockey team lost on the road at No. 4 Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon, 3-0.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest on the road at No. 4 Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon, 3-0.

Slippery Rock (6-9, 1-6 PSAC) played the nationally ranked Raiders (11-3, 5-2 PSAC) even for the opening 35 minutes, but Shippensburg posted three second-half goals on the way to a home victory.

Shippensburg broke the scoreless tie early in the second half when Sarah Womer converted her first goal of the season in the 39th minute. The Rock's defense responded from the score and continued to fend off the Raiders' attack over the following 14 minutes before Emily Stauffer broke through at 52:38 with a backhanded goal to make it a 2-0 contest. Stauffer added an additional insurance goal in the 70th minute en route to the three-goal win.

Sophomore Courtney Page led The Rock's offense with two shots on goal while senior Liz Wolfe and junior Kalie Reed also added one attempt on target apiece. Senior Hannah Downing had The Rock's other lone shot, an attempt that sailed wide in the second half.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Murphy played all 70 minutes and wrapped up the game with 12 saves, her fourth double-digit save performance of the season. Freshman Haley Plitt made her second defensive save of the season in the loss as well.

For the game, Shippensburg held advantages over The Rock in total shots (26-5), shots on goal (16-4) and penalty corners (14-6).

Slippery Rock continues its 2018 schedule with a PSAC game 4 p.m. Oct. 31 at Mercyhurst University. SRU defeated the Lakers, 3-2, in a non-conference game at home earlier in the season.
