Rock blanks Seton Hill, 4-0

Slippery Rock beat Seton Hill, 4-0, Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium to improve to 5-3 on the season.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team defeated Seton Hill University, 4-0, Wednesday night in non-conference play at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The win improved Slippery Rock's record to 5-3 on the year, while the loss dropped Seton Hill to 2-5 for the season.

Brittany Morgan registered two goals for The Rock on the night, while Hannah Downing and Kailee Krupski both added one apiece. Kayla Mack and Courtney Page both recorded one assist apiece for Slippery Rock in the win.

Nine players recorded shots for SRU in the game. Kayla Ulrich led the team with six shots, followed by Krupski, Mack and Morgan with three apiece. Downing and Abby McKay added two shots each for The Rock, while Sam Geroski, Liz Wolfe and Allison Martin added one apiece.

Goalkeepers Nicole Bream and Maddie Murphy split time at net for The Rock. Bream started the game and was aided by strong defensive play from the back line, facing zero shots in her 35 minutes of play. Murphy subbed in for the second half, where she recorded three saves.

Morgan made it 1-0 in the 24th minute when she scored a put-back goal after rebounding a shot off the post. Less than three minutes later, Downing made it 2-0 when she scored off of a penalty stroke. During second half action, Krupski added to Slippery Rock's lead after scoring off an assist from Mack in the 46th minute. Morgan recorded her second goal of the game off an assist from Page at the 48:20 mark, giving The Rock a 4-0 lead and securing the victory.

Two goalkeepers saw time for the Griffins. Jane Eberhardt started the game, allowing two goals and recording five saves. Alexandra Piekarz subbed in for the second half, allowing two goals while recording seven saves during her 35 minutes of play.

For the game, Slippery Rock led Seton Hill in shots (22-6), shots on goal (18-3) and penalty corners (8-5).

Up next, Slippery Rock hits the road to face No. 3 West Chester University for its first PSAC game of the season 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
