Rock sweeps Point Park

The Slippery Rock softball team swept a doubleheader against Point Park Tuesday afternoon at the SRU Softball Complex.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University softball team swept a doubleheader against Point Park University Tuesday at the SRU Softball Complex.
 
SRU won game one of the doubleheader 1-0 in eight innings, before securing the sweep with a 3-1 victory in game two.
 
Slippery Rock has now won four of its last five games to improve to 13-18 overall. With the losses, Point Park drops to 17-14.
 
GAME ONE: Slippery Rock 1, Point Park 0
In a notable outing, Point Park's starting pitcher Lily Pruneda did not allow a Slippery Rock hit until the fourth inning of game one when Nicole Siciliano singled to left field.
 
Neither team would manufacture a run until extra innings.
 
With Megan Brown on second due to the international tiebreaker rule in the eighth, Caitlin Baxter laid down a bunt to third base that was overthrown to first base, allowing Brown to score the game-winning run.
 
Offensively, Emily Nagle led The Rock with two hits.
 
Carly DeRose struck out eight batters in her fourth win and second shutout of the season. DeRose allowed four hits and walked three across eight innings.
 
Pruneda finished the game with an impressive 11 strikeouts and gave up just three hits.
 
GAME TWO: Slippery Rock 3, Point Park 1
In the third inning of game two, Brown put The Rock on the board when she scored Alexa Guglielmino from second on an RBI to left center.
 
The Pioneers tied the game up in the sixth inning when Brittany Zeigler scored Courtney Blocher from third on a sacrifice fly out to right field.
 
With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Lauren Hawley doubled to right center and then scored on Kailey Myers' RBI double down the right field line the next at-bat. Siciliano scored Myers on her 10th RBI of the season with a single to left center to make it a 3-1 game.
 
Brooke Dawson earned her third straight win for SRU as she struck out six in a complete game.
