Slippery Rock lost at Shippensburg University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team lost at Shippensburg University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.

The loss drops The Rock's record to 1-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in league play while Shippensburg improves to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference competition with the win.

Slippery Rock doubled Shippensburg in total shots (14-7) while also holding an advantage in shots on goal (5-3) as well as a commanding lead in corner kick attempts (5-1), but was unable to find an answer for Shippensburg's goal late in the first half.

Julianna Esposito led the Slippery Rock attack with three total shots Saturday, two of which were on goal. Brooke Testa and Skye Kramer each took a pair of shots as well with one shot on goal apiece.

Miranda Gallucci, Maddy Tletski, Sam Thornton, Dara Demich, Keri Mathias, Andrea Felix and Madison Johnson all tallied shots throughout the game as well for The Rock.

Goalkeeper Charlotte Elrod started the game, stopping one shot and allowing one goal before giving way to Kylie Downs, who saved the only shot on goal that came her way in the game's final 53 minutes of action.

The Raiders scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 37th minute when Bailey Bzdak beat Elrod from five yards out on an assist from Tori Rose to give Shippensburg a 1-0 lead.

Kramer and Mathias both recorded shots at the end of the opening period, but each attempt sailed wide and Shippensburg carried its one-goal advantage into halftime.

Slippery Rock fired off five shots over the first 26 minutes of the second half, but three of the attempts were stopped by Shippensburg goalkeeper Leah Roy and the other two were off target.

The Rock continued to pepper the Shippensburg net with five more attempts throughout the remainder of the game, but none of the attempts would find the back of the Shippensburg net as the Raiders hung on for a 1-0 victory.

Slippery Rock will look to return to its winning ways when it heads back on the road to play at rival California (Pa.) 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
