SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest at Seton Hill University, 76-45, Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Slippery Rock's record to 11-12 overall and 7-10 in conference competition. Seton Hill improves to 13-10 overall and 9-8 in league play with the win.

Slippery Rock struggled to shoot the ball all game, finishing at just 22.5 percent (16-for-71) from field overall. Conversely, Seton Hill connected on 45.5 percent (30-for-66) of its shots, including five 3-pointers.

Lexi Carpenter was a bright spot for The Rock Saturday. The junior guard continued her impressive play as of late with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 28 minutes against the Griffins. Carpenter has scored at least 15 points in five straight games.

Ciara Patterson added 10 points while
Mallory Heinle chipped in six points and five rebounds.
Erica Aiello and
Morgan Henderson rounded out The Rock's scorers with seven points and four points, respectively.

Slippery Rock did shoot 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line in addition to winning the turnover battle after committing just seven miscues while forcing Seton Hill into 12 turnovers.

Virtually everything that could have went wrong in the first quarter for The Rock did, SRU shot 12.5 percent in the period, turned the ball over four times, went the final seven minutes of the quarter without scoring and allowed Seton Hill to shoot 45 percent in the period that led to a 23-5 Seton Hill lead through 10 minutes of play.

Slippery Rock played much better in the second quarter. SRU stiffened up defensively to hold the Griffins to just two points over the first seven minutes of the quarter as part of its 8-2 run that cut the SHU lead down to 12 points at 25-13 with three minutes to play in the half. The Rock and Seton Hill traded baskets down the stretch and the Griffins maintained their 12-point lead heading into halftime, 31-19.

SRU kept the game in reach thanks to a 9-for-12 effort from the free throw line and a defensive effort in the second period that saw Slippery Rock hold the Griffins to a 30.7 shooting percentage while forcing five turnovers.

The Rock jumped out on a quick 6-0 run in the second half to start what would be an 8-2 run that shaved the Seton Hill lead down to just six points (33-27) with 6:48 remaining in the third quarter. However, The Rock's offense once again went cold and Seton Hill closed the quarter on a 20-11 run to take 53-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

Seton Hill outscored The Rock 23-7 in the fourth quarter on the way to the 76-45 win. Jenna Kaufman had a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Seton Hill.

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from the defeat with a win 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at California (Pa.).
