Rock loses to ESU in PSAC Quarterfinals

Slippery Rock’s season came to an end in a 5-0 loss at East Stroudsburg in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team's season came to an end in a 5-0 loss at East Stroudsburg University in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.

Slippery Rock exits the year with an overall record of 10-8-1. SRU has now produced 21 consecutive winning seasons; the seventh longest streak in NCAA Division II history. Tuesday's game marked the seventh consecutive year in which SRU has earned a PSAC Tournament berth.

SRU faced pressure from the East Stroudsburg offense, which entered the game ranked third in the conference in goals scored, from the opening minutes as the Warriors tallied nine of the game's first 10 shots. Despite the lopsided shot totals, Slippery Rock's defense kept ESU in check early on before the Warriors finally broke through for the game's first goal, an Alex Pickett score, at 35:30.

East Stroudsburg went on to add two more goals over the next six minutes to take a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime. Maddy Tletski had The Rock's lone shot in the first half, a wide attempt in the 23rd minute.

ESU went on to add two additional goals in the second half on the way to its 5-0 victory.

Dara Demich concluded the game with a team-high two shots while Tletski, Maddy Smith, Tess Keeley and Andrea Felix each added one shot apiece. Goalkeeper Kylie Downs had 12 saves in the loss.

Tuesday's game was the final in the careers of Rock seniors Demich, Felix, Ariana Daukss, Megan Lenzi, Lynn Neef and Sam Thornton. The senior class helped The Rock to four PSAC Tournament berths, one NCAA Tournament appearance and 49 wins over the last four years.

Despite losing such a great senior class Slippery Rock's future is still bright as 19 players on this year's team were just juniors or underclassmen including 12 who played in 10 or more games this season.
