Box Score (HTML) SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team came alive to produce the second highest goal total by a Rock team in the last 11 seasons in a dominating 7-1 victory against Daemen College Saturday afternoon at James Egli Field.
Since the 2004 season Slippery Rock has scored seven goals in a game five times with the only higher total coming in last season's 10-0 victory against Pitt-Johnstown.
The non-conference victory improves The Rock's record on the season to 1-1. Daemen falls to 0-1 with the loss.
Junior forwards
Dara Demich and
Andrea Felix led the way for Slippery Rock with matching two-goal, one-assist outings. Saturday was both players' fourth multi-goal game of their respective careers.
Senior midfielder
Caitlin Binder scored her second goal in as many games with a brilliant header while the freshmen duo of
Mariah Varner and
Julianna Esposito each tallied the first collegiate goals of their young careers.

Brooke Testa, sophomore midfielder
Tess Keeley and junior defender
Ariana Daukss all added assists as well.
Saturday's game was never in doubt as Slippery Rock came out quick with Demich's first goal off of a free kick eight minutes into the contest. Varner made it a 2-0 game with a score in the 27th minute before Daemen's Stephanie Zurales just managed to send a shot over freshman goalie
Charlotte Elrod's hands to cut The Rock's lead to 2-1 midway through the opening half.
However, Slippery Rock put the game away 10 minutes later with goals by Esposito and Felix that occurred less than two minutes apart to send Slippery Rock into halftime with a commanding 4-1 advantage.
After a quiet start to the second half, Slippery Rock produced a strong finish in which it scored three goals in the final 15 minutes.
First, Demich finished off a deflected Keeley shot at 75:35 then Binder delivered a diving header off of a perfectly placed pass by Demich in the 86th minute before Felix added the exclamation point with her second strike of the day off Daukss' pass to give Slippery Rock the six-goal triumph.
For the game, SRU held advantages over Daemen in shots (17-4), corner kicks (5-0) and shots on goal (13-4).
Elrod stopped three shots in 90 minutes to pick up the win.
Slippery Rock continues its season-long five-game homestand 1 p.m. Friday when it opens up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play against Millersville University at James Egli Field.
