Game Two Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University baseball team lost two games to Kentucky Wesleyan College, 5-4 and 13-10, Monday in Clearwater, Florida.
Slippery Rock jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening game of the doubleheader, but Kentucky Wesleyan went on to score five runs in the final three innings to earn the win.
Game two was a slugfest that featured 23 runs and 24 hits. SRU led 8-3 through four innings before the Panthers scored 10 runs between the fifth and sixth innings to spoil The Rock's potential victory.
The losses snapped Slippery Rock's five-game winning streak and gives Slippery Rock a 7-3 overall record with one game remaining before it begins Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Friday against Mercyhurst. Kentucky Wesleyan improved to 6-2 with the sweep.
In two games Monday, senior
Jake Nogalo combined to go 5-for-7 with four runs scored, three RBI and a pair of doubles. Fellow senior
Adam Urbania was 3-for-6 on the afternoon with one run, two RBI and two doubles.
Freshman
Tyler Walters rounded out The Rock's top performers by going 3-for-7 with three runs, two RBI and two doubles.
Through 10 games, Nogalo is batting .415 with 17 runs, 10 RBI and three stolen bases. Walters leads the team in batting average (.438) and is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak. Urbania's 12 RBI are a team-best.
Senior
Jon Anderson (0-1) was the pitcher of record in the opener. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Junior
James Divosevic (0-1) closed out the game by retiring the final two batters in the sixth inning. Divosevic also appeared in game two; taking the loss after coming on in the sixth inning with SRU leading 10-9 and surrendering four runs on a day where the offenses from both teams had the upper hand on the pitching staffs.
Slippery Rock will look to end its time in Florida on a high note with a victory against nationally ranked Saint Leo University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Jack Russell Stadium.
