GAME ONE: Slippery Rock 11 – Indiana 2Rock junior pitcher
Jon Anderson was dominant all day in The Rock's game one victory, throwing 6 2/3 innings worth of shutout baseball until the Crimson Hawks managed to net two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before Anderson recorded the game's final out to improve his record to 1-1 on the season.
On the day, Anderson scattered six hits and two walks while striking out four in what was one of the top performances of his Rock career. The complete game was his second in an SRU uniform.
While Anderson kept the IUP bats silent, The Rock's offense produced three runs in the first inning and two more in the third to go with a pair of three-run frames in the fourth and seventh on the way to an 11-2 victory.
SRU collected 14 hits in the opener and was 10-for-22 with runners on base. Sophomore
Logan Brown and Walters drove in two runs with a pair of hits each. Bell scored three runs and was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Nogalo and Urbania tallied two hits, scored two runs and registered one RBI apiece as well with Nogalo also stealing his fourth base of the season.
Kyle Zaorski (2-2) was the pitcher of record for IUP. He surrendered eight runs and 11 hits to go with seven strikeouts in four innings.
GAME TWO: Indiana 17 – Slippery Rock 5As was the case on Saturday, Slippery Rock could not pull off the sweep due to a big performance from the Crimson Hawks' bats to close the day.
Slippery Rock traded shots with Indiana through the opening half of game two, trailing by just two runs at 7-5 through the conclusion of four innings. However, IUP put the game out of reach with a combined 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Walters had a two-run single up the middle in the second inning that scored Brown and Bell. Urbania then drove a two-run single of his own the following inning to plate Nogalo and sophomore
Preston Falascino; the duo led off the inning with back-to-back hits. After scoring a run in the second, Brown returned to the plate in the third to bring in Urbania, who had advanced to third on a Bell single.
SRU's best chance for runs the rest of game came in the sixth when Slippery Rock put runners on first and third with two outs, but IUP pitcher Zach Chinchilla (2-0) ended The Rock's comeback bid with a strikeout.
For the game, Falascino and Bell were each 2-for-4. Both of Falascino's hits were doubles.
Senior pitcher
Anton Constantino dropped to 0-2 on the season after giving up seven runs on eight hits and four walks over 3.1 innings of work. Only four of the seven runs were earned. Junior
Geoff Sanner and freshman
Mitchell Wood both allowed five runs in relief work. Sanner struck out a team-high three batters.
Ryan Uhl had two home runs, one of which being a grand slam, and six RBI to lead Indiana. Chinchilla lasted six innings to pick up the win.
