EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team had its winning streak halted at two games in a 79-56 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division loss to Edinboro University on Wednesday night at McComb Field House.

The loss drops The Rock's record to 9-13 overall and 5-13 in conference play. Despite the defeat, Slippery Rock did not lose any ground on Pitt-Johnstown (9-13, 6-12 PSAC-West) for the sixth spot in the PSAC-West standings as UPJ fell 79-64 to California (Pa.) and remain only one game ahead of SRU for the final slot in the upcoming PSAC Tournament with four games to play in the season.

Edinboro improved to 17-6 overall and 14-5 in division competition with the win.

After an early Edinboro run, Slippery Rock battled back to keep the game within two possessions for the majority of first half and found itself trailing by just five points at 23-18 with five minutes left in the period. However, the Fighting Scots closed the half on a 10-4 run to take a 33-23 lead into the break.

The opening 20 minutes belonged to Aignee' Freeland, who scored 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots. The Slippery Rock defense held all other Edinboro players to a .316 (6-for-19) shooting percentage, but couldn't contain the junior post player.

SRU never recovered from Edinboro's late first-half spurt as the Fighting Scots opened the second half by scoring 15 of the period's first 20 points to push their lead to 20 points (48-28) with 14 minutes to play en route to the eventual 79-56 victory.

After shooting 28.6 percent in the first half, Slippery Rock regrouped to make 46.4 percent of its attempts in the second period to finish at 37.5 percent for the night. Edinboro was consistent during both periods and ended the game at 45.3 percent from the field.

Junior guard Taylor Siggers continued her offensive hot streak with a team-best 18 points. She went 7-for-16 from the field overall, made a pair of three-pointers and two free throws on the way to her third consecutive game with at least 17 points. Siggers was just 2-for-8 in the first half, but rebounded with a 5-for-8 effort in the second stanza.

Senior forward D'Asia Chambers added nine points as well as seven rebounds while the reserve pairing of junior guard Breanna Gross and freshman guard Shannon Jack chipped in seven points apiece.

Freeland tallied a game-best 29 points for Edinboro. Teammate Valarie Majewski added 23 points in the win. The pair combined to score 65.8 percent of the Fighting Scots' points.

Junior forward Megan Hardiman and junior guard Erica Aiello helped The Rock's cause with six rebounds and three assists, respectively, while junior center Sorriyah Ranger played a season-high 20 minutes and finished with a personal-best three blocks.

Slippery Rock returns home to host Seton Hill University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a crucial PSAC-West game for The Rock.
