VIENNA, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team led by as many as 27 points en route to a 69-50 victory at Ohio Valley University Tuesday night.
The non-conference triumph snaps SRU's two-game losing streak and improves its record to 5-3 on the season. Ohio Valley drops to 1-5 on the year in the loss.
Slippery Rock held the Fighting Scots to a 28.3 field goal percentage (15-for-53) while forcing OVU into 18 turnovers. Slippery Rock rebounded from a rough shooting performance of its own in a recent loss at Central State University by making 47.3 percent (26-for-55) of its attempts. Slippery Rock scored 20 points off of OVU turnovers.
Twelve of the 14 Rock players who played scored points Tuesday with junior guard
Audrey Stapleton leading the way with a team-high 15 points. Stapleton, who has now scored at least 13 points in five straight games, went 6-for-9 from the field overall and 3-for-4 from 3-point range.

Lexi Carpenter was The Rock's second double-digit scorer with 12 points to go with four assists and three rebounds.
Senior forward
Sorriyah Ranger chipped in a career-high eight points while blocking two shots. Sophomore guard
Ciara Patterson rounded out SRU's top scorers with eight points as well as passing out four assists.
Other top performers against Ohio Valley included senior forward
Megan Hardiman, senior guard
Erica Aiello and freshman forward
Morgan Henderson. Hardiman had five points and a team-high seven rebounds, Aiello passed out four assists and Henderson pulled down five rebounds.
Ohio Valley held an early 5-2 lead through the opening two minutes of the first quarter, but Slippery Rock ended the opening period on a 15-3 run to take a 17-8 lead into the second quarter that it would never relinquish. Carpenter scored six points during the spurt.
The Rock and Fighting Scots traded baskets for the majority of the second quarter with SRU eventually adding two more points to its lead to take a 32-21 lead into halftime. Any thoughts of second-half comeback by Ohio Valley were quickly put to rest as Slippery Rock outscored OVU 21-9 in the third quarter to take a commanding 23-point lead into the fourth quarter on the way to The Rock's third double-digit victory of the season.
SRU also held edges over OVU in rebounding (38-35), points in the paint (20-16), second chance points (11-10), and bench scoring (35-4).
Anne Braswell paced Ohio Valley with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Slippery Rock returns to PSAC play with a pair of crossover contests against Eastern Division foes West Chester University 5:30 p.m. Friday and Cheyney University 2 p.m. Saturday.
