SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team defeated Lock Haven University, 58-49, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest Sunday afternoon at Morrow Field House.
The win, Slippery Rock's second in as many days, improved The Rock's record to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in PSAC play. The last time Slippery Rock started a season 4-1 was in 2004-05. Lock Haven drops to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in league competition with the loss.
SRU shot a season-low 31.7 percent (19-for-60) from the field overall, but once again excelled from 3-point range and from the foul line with respective shooting percentages of 43.8 (7-for-16) and 86.7 (13-for-15). Defensively, Slippery Rock forced Lock Haven into 17 turnovers and a 17-for-50 (34.0 percent) mark from the field.

Lexi Carpenter scored a game-high 15 points in addition to recording eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Four of Carpenter's rebounds came on the offensive end.

Audrey Stapleton came off the bench to give The Rock 13 points and four rebounds. Senior guard
Erica Aiello was Slippery Rock's third double-figure scorer with 12 points while also picking up four rebounds and passing out two assists.

Megan Hardiman, Slippery Rock's leading rebounder on the year, had seven rebounds Sunday as well as seven points. Sophomore guard

Krista Pietropola (five) and freshman forward
Morgan Henderson (one) rounded out The Rock's scorers against the Bald Eagles. Patterson also had two steals on defense.
Slippery Rock would never trailed Sunday. SRU took a 10-6 lead into the second quarter before Lock Haven cut The Rock's lead down to just one point at 16-15 with 3:42 left in the opening half, but Slippery Rock pulled away by scoring five of the second quarter's final seven points to take a 24-19 lead into halftime.
Lock Haven was unable to ever pose a serious threat to The Rock's lead in the second half as SRU grew its lead out to as many as 14 points early in the fourth quarter en route to the eventual 58-49 win.
For the game, Slippery Rock held advantages over LHU in points off turnovers (18-6), fast break points (6-0), blocks (6-5) and steals (7-4).
Slippery Rock will look to push its winning streak three games when it hosts No. 22 West Liberty University 2 p.m. Wednesday.
