Rock blanks East Stroudsburg, 2-0

Mike Pcholinsky and Peter Boylan scored goals to help The Rock to a 2-0 win at East Stroudsburg Saturday.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team registered its third shutout in its last five matches with a 2-0 win at East Stroudsburg University Saturday afternoon.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory improved The Rock's record to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in league play. East Stroudsburg falls to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Slippery Rock is now 6-1-1 against ESU dating back to the 2008 season. SRU has surrendered just three goals in its last eight meetings with the Warriors.

Only days after hitting the game-winning goal against Gannon University, junior midfielder Mike Pcholinsky struck again with another game-winner. Senior forward Peter Boylan added an insurance goal for Slippery Rock as well. The goal was Boylan's second of the season and 12th of his career. Junior defender Patrick Sullivan setup Boylan's goal for his second assist of 2015.

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Hoffer stopped five shots for his second consecutive shutout. Hoffer is now 5-2 on the year with three shutouts and a 0.79 goals against average.

Following a scoreless first half, Slippery Rock came alive in the second period starting with Pcholinsky's goal in the 54th minute. Boylan made it a two-score game less than 16 minutes later when he scored off of Sullivan's assist at 69:13.

The 2-0 lead was more than enough for Hoffer and the rest of the Slippery Rock defense as SRU went on to allow a mere three shots, only one of which was on target, in the game's final 20 minutes en route to the victory.

Pcholinsky also finished with a team-high two shots on goal. Boylan and junior forward Matt Sangermano tallied shots on goal for The Rock as well.

With the win, Slippery Rock moves into sole possession of fifth place in the PSAC standings.

Slippery Rock continues its three-match road trip when it steps out of conference play for the final time of 2015 3 p.m. Tuesday at Le Moyne.
