Rock defeated by #17 Indiana, 73-48

Slippery Rock dropped a PSAC-West contest to 17th ranked Indiana (Pa.), 73-48, Saturday night at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest to 17th ranked Indiana (Pa.), 73-48, Saturday night at Morrow Field House.
 
Slippery Rock (6-10, 2-10 PSAC-West) was paced by junior guard Taylor Siggers, who scored 14 points on 5-for-13 shooting from the field. Siggers also converted a team-high three free throws.
 
Senior forwards D'Asia Chambers and Danielle Garroutte both chipped in six points with Chambers, who was limited to 17 minutes on the night due to foul trouble, also grabbing a team-best four rebounds.
 
Freshman forward Mallory Heinle came off the bench to produce one of her best outings in recent weeks with five points and three rebounds.
 
Slippery Rock played even with the nationally ranked Crimson Haws through the game's opening six minutes of play, finding itself down by only three points at 11-8 after Garroutte converted a tightly-contested layup. However, Indiana proceeded to go on a 20-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 31-10 lead that SRU couldn't recover from.
 
IUP, which only committed five turnovers, went into the half leading by 18 points (39-21) and wouldn't see its lead drop below 12 points in second half on the way to its 73-48 victory.
 
Junior guard Erica Aiello and freshman guard Shannon Jack combined to score 10 of SRU's 27 second-half points. Aiello also dished out three of her team-high four assists in the second period.
 
For the game, The Rock shot 38.0 percent (19-for-50) from the field, its second highest percentage in the last five games. The Crimson Hawks connected on 44.3 percent (27-for-61) of its shots from the field while making seven three-pointers.
 
Lindsay Stamp guided Indiana (15-1, 11-1 PSAC-West) with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Marita Mathe added 16 points and five assists as well.
 
Slippery Rock will look to snap its five-game losing streak when it hosts Clarion on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
