SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The tenth-ranked Slippery Rock University field hockey team was upended 2-1 by Lindenwood University Saturday in non-conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

With the loss, The Rock has now fallen in three straight games to drop to 3-3 on the season. All three losses Slippery Rock losses have been by one goal.

The Rock wasted little time getting on the board as the hosts swarmed around the Lions zone, peppering the goalkeeper with multiple shots in the opening minutes of the match.

Slippery Rock earned a corner and passed around the circle before freshman
Kailee Krupski found the back of the cage on a feed from sophomore
Megan McKay in the 4
th minute, giving SRU an early 1-0 edge over Lindenwood.

As quick as the offense got rolling for The Rock, registering six shots and a goal in the first four minutes of the match, the Lions defense took over as if by a flip of the switch. The Rock would not register a shot for the final 66 minutes of the match.

 Amelia Rodriguez emerged from a scrum in front of the SRU cage to find Greta Banholzer, who buried a shot into the cage in the 17
th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained knotted at 1-1 into the break, before the upset-minded Lions came out aggressively in the second half. After Lindenwood earned a corner, Victoria Buysschaert blasted a shot towards goal before the SRU keeper made a huge blocker save out to the top of the circle. Ashton Lichvar collected the rebound and sent a one-time pass to Banholzer, who deflected the pass into the cage for her second goal of the match to give the Lions a 2-1 lead in the 37
th minute.

Banholzer's second goal would prove to be the game-winner, as the Lindenwood defense held strong and controlled possession to preserve the 2-1 upset over The Rock.

The Lions owned advantages of 13-6 in total shots, 11-5 in shots on goal and 11-5 in penalty corners. All six of Slippery Rock's shots, five of which were on goal, occurred in the first four minutes of the game.

Carlee DuMars was tagged with the loss after allowing two goals with nine saves to fall to 3-3 on the season.

Victoria Gil picked up the win after allowing a goal with four saves to improve to 2-3 this fall.

Slippery Rock returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Tuesday against No. 2 Shippensburg from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium at 4 p.m.
