Traditional Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team fell to West Chester University 2-1 in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.

Slippery Rock closes its regular season at 11-5-1 overall and 10-5-1 in the PSAC. SRU has now recorded 19 straight winning seasons and 17 consecutive years with at least 10 wins.

West Chester, which came into the game ranked first in the Atlantic Region and 13th in the nation by the NSCAA, heads into postseason play at 15-1-1 overall and 14-1-1 in league games.

The Rock now enters next week's PSAC Tournament as the fifth seed and will play its opening-round game at California (Pa.) on Tuesday.

Slippery Rock has been one of the few teams in the region to have had success on the Vulcans' home surface at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility. Since its opening in 2010, California is 49-4-6 at home and Slippery Rock has been responsible for three of the losses. Overall Slippery Rock is 5-1 against California dating back to the 2012 season.

Earlier in the season, Slippery Rock beat California 1-0 behind a Dara Demich goal from Caitlin Binder in the final moments of regulation.

Saturday's game saw Slippery Rock and West Chester play to 0-0 tie through the opening 45 minutes of competition before the Rams' Carly Yost broke the scoreless affair with her seventh goal of the season nine minutes into the second half.

Not to be outdone, Slippery Rock answered back early in the 68th minute when Nicole Krueger found Leslie Henny who went on to beat WCU goalkeeper Alex Srolis for the score. The goal was Henny's third of the season while Krueger's assist was her third of the year.

The contest remained tied at 1-1 over the next 12 minutes until Maddy Barretti managed to sneak a goal past The Rock's nationally-ranked defense to put WCU up 2-1 at the 77:35 mark in the second half.

Slippery Rock couldn't produce any last-second heroics as it has done so many times in 2014 and the Rams were able to escape with the one-goal home victory.

In addition to Henny and Krueger, The Rock's offensive attack also featured Ali Brosky and Binder on Saturday with three and two shots, respectively.

Rock goalie Annabelle Hegeman stopped three shots in the defeat.

For the game, Slippery Rock held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Both teams registered five shots on goal.

Slippery Rock begins PSAC Tournament play Tuesday at California at 1 p.m.
