Box Score (HTML)SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The tenth-ranked Slippery Rock University field hockey team had its five-game win streak snapped as it fell 3-0 at third-ranked Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Tuesday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex.

The loss marks Slippery Rock's first loss in six games as The Rock drops to 9-7 overall and 7-5 in PSAC play. Meanwhile, Shippensburg improves to 12-3 overall and 9-3 in league action.

Against the Raiders' high-powered offense, Slippery Rock's stout defensive line recorded two defensive saves and blocked five shots as The Rock limited Shippensburg to a single goal in the first 50 minutes of action. The strong defensive performance gave way late, as Shippensburg tallied a pair of insurance goals to pick up the 3-0 victory.

Emily Barnard gave the Raiders its first lead after sneaking a shot through a crowd in front of goal in the 14th minute. Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, the Raiders looked to have its second goal of the match before junior
Lauren Shideler stepped in to make a defensive save and keep Slippery Rock within one heading to the break.

Shippensburg tallied its second goal of the match, again by Barnard, after senior Rock defender
Kelsey Gustafson made an impressive defensive save. Barnard collected the rebound off of Gustafson and found the back of the cage to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead in the 51st minute.

Katelyn Grazan added the Raiders final goal in the 61st minute to give the defending champions the 3-0 win.

Shippensburg finished with advantages in total shots (20-4), shots on goal (10-2) and penalty corners (11-0).

Junior goalkeeper
Carlee DuMars was tagged with the loss after allowing three goals and making five saves. DuMars falls to 9-7 on the season with the decision.

Slippery Rock returns to PSAC action in its home-finale under the lights Saturday night against Mercyhurst. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
