SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – On a day in which the 2014 senior class of the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team was honored, it was a pair of Rock student-athletes in their final years of competition that paved the way for SRU in a 3-0 victory against Lock Haven University at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Prior to Saturday's game seniors Ryan Van Dorick, Brandon Chiu, Anthony Jack, Stephen Donnelly, Josh Brake and Dom Francis were recognized for their contributions to the program in the next to last home games of their collegiate career. Once play started, Donnelly converted Slippery Rock's first two goals while Francis added an insurance score en route to the shutout-victory.

The win snapped a two-game Rock losing streak and improved SRU's record on the year to 8-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Lock Haven, which entered the contest ranked second in the league standings, fell to 5-7-1 overall and 4-3-0 in PSAC matches.

Donnelly's two goals on Saturday give the Dublin, Ireland native 59 points during his tenure at SRU and vault him from 18th in the Rock record books for points in a career to 13th place.

Francis' score was his sixth of the season.

Slippery Rock and Lock Haven played an even match for much of the first half until Donnelly scored the game's opening goal with just 24 seconds remaining in the period after making a long run and beating several Bald Eagle defenders to put The Rock ahead 1-0 heading into halftime.

SRU were the aggressors out of the break with seven shots to start the second half before Donnelly chipped an attempt over Lock Haven goalie Jonathan Howitt's head in the 72nd minute to give Slippery Rock a 2-0 lead.

The Rock went on to waste little time putting the game away when Francis registered the game's final goal less than two minutes later, extending the SRU advantage to 3-0.

Lock Haven managed four shots over the remainder of the game, but was unable to penetrate a solid Rock defense as the Green and White closed out the matchup for the clean sheet victory.

Rock goalkeeper Steven Rerick stopped six shots for his second shutout of the year.

Troy Amspacher took six shots to pace Lock Haven in the loss.

Slippery Rock is back in action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Gannon University at James Egli Field.
