CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Eighth-ranked California University of Pa. won an 8-1 decision Wednesday over visiting and 44th-ranked Slippery Rock University to claim a sixth straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division championship.

Sarah Lynch recorded the only Rock point Wednesday as she scored a 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 upset over California's Anastassiya Zherdeva, the 28th-ranked Division II singles player in the nation according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
The team loss snapped a string of eight straight wins for SRU and dropped The Rock's season records to 16-4 overall, 4-1 in PSAC-West action.
California improved its record to 19-5 overall, 5-0 in division competition, and earned a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
SRU, as the PSAC-West runner-up, will host Mercyhurst in a first-round match Tuesday.
Prior to that, The Rock will host West Virginia State in a 1:30 p.m. match Thursday to close out the regular-season schedule. SRU is the No. 3 team in the latest ITA Atlantic Regional poll, while WVSU is ranked seventh,
