SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The 44th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's tennis team clinched a fifth straight trip to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament Saturday with an 8-1 win over visiting PSAC-Western Division rival Indiana (Pa.).
The win gave SRU a 4-0 mark in division matches with only a Tuesday duel at eighth-ranked California (Pa.) remaining on the Green and White's PSAC-West schedule.
Thus, SRU is assured of at worst a host role for an April 20 opening-round playoff match. A win Tuesday in California would earn The Rock the PSAC-West title and a bye into the conference semifinals April 23 in Bloomsburg.
The Rock will compete in the PSAC Championships for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons.
Before turning its attention to Tuesday's match at California, though, The Rock will put its seven-match win streak and 15-3 overall record on the line in an 11 a.m. home match Sunday vs. 49th-ranked Charleston.
Saturday's win over Indiana (15-6 overall, 2-2 PSAC-West) came on the strength of two triumphs in doubles matches and a clean sweep of the six singles matches.
