WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. -- The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team won its first dual match of the season, defeating NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rival West Liberty State, 8-1, Wednesday at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
Wednesday's match marked the first dual match of the fall season for The Rock, which opened its season last weekend with an impressive showing at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
The Rock opened Wednesday's match with a sweep of the three doubles matches, then won the second through sixth singles matches.
SRU returns to action Saturday, when it will take on East Stroudsburg in a high-noon duel in Bloomsburg. The Rock and Bloomsburg then meet in an 8:30 a.m. match Sunday.
