Rock-Merchurst match postponed until Thursday

The prospect of rain showers forced the postponement of Tuesday's scheduled PSAC quarterfinal match between the 29th-ranked Rock and Mercyyhurst

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Tuesday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's tennis match between 29th-ranked Slippery Rock University and Mercyhurst College has been postponed until Thursday due to the threat of rain showers Tuesday afternoon.

The Rock, the second-place team in the final PSAC-Western Division standings,  will take an 18-3 overall record into the match.

Mercyhurst, the No. 3 team in the PSAC-West, currently owns a 9-8 overall record.

The Rock defeated the Lakers by a 7-2 score in the teams' regular-season meeting April 3 at the Oxford North Tennis Club in Wexford.

The winner of Thursday's match will advance to PSAC semifinal action Friday against PSAC-West champion Bloomsburg (12-4) on the Huskies' home courts.

PSAC-East runner-up Kutztown (10-4) hosts PSAC-East third-place finisher East Stroudsburg (6-7) in the other first-round match. The winner of that match will play PSAC-West champion California, Pa. (17-2) in semifinal action Friday in Bloomsburg.

The conference championship match will be played Saturday in Bloomsburg.

Note: Rock head coach Matt Meredith announced Tuesday that his squad has added a 5 p.m. home match May 4 vs. neighboring Grove City College to its schedule.
