SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- California University of Pa., the No. 12 team in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II national ranking, blanked No. 29 Slippery Rock, 5-0, Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division women's tennis action on the SRU Tennis Courts.
The win in the "race-to-5" match between the top two teams in the PSAC and NCAA Division II Atlantic Region improved California's season record to 13-2, while Thursday's loss was only the third suffered by The Rock in 17 matches this season.
Earlier in the season, The Rock lost matches against Carnegie Mellon, the No. 3 team in the current ITA Division III national poll, and Grand Valley State, the No. 27 team in the most recent D-II poll.
California's two losses, meanwhile, have come against Division I Youngstown State and Rollins (Fla.), the No. 9 team in the latest Division II national poll.
The Rock will look to regain its winning ways Friday when it hosts PSAC-West rival Mercyhurst in a 4 p.m. match. SRU then visits division rival Indiana (Pa.) for a noon match Saturday.
