ORLANDO, Fla. -- Junior Laura Handy recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 2 singles match and teamed with senior Kayla Blackburn to win the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-0 score Wednesday to lead the 27th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's tennis team to an 8-1 win over Martin Methodist College of Tennessee.
The win was SRU's fourth straight and eighth in nine matches this season.
The No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Samantha Blackburn (Kayla's sister) and junior Jessica Hilborn also recorded an 8-0 win for another Rock highlight.
The Rock will take on 16th-ranked Grand Valley State (Mich.) at 8 a.m. Thursday in the final match of SRU's spring-break trip to the Sunshine State.
