SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The 31st-ranked Slippery Rock University women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2009-10 dual-match schedule with a 6-3 win Monday over visiting Grove City College.
The win gave the Green and White a 3-1 record heading into its spring season.
Senior
Laura Handy and sophomore
Dunja Drmac led the winning effort Monday as they teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-3 score and then won their respective singles matches.
Handy scored a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 1 singles match, while Drmac reigned by a 6-3, 6-1 score in the No. 2 singles match.
The Rock also got a victory in the No. 2 doubles match as senior
Jessica Hilborn and junior
Chelsea Gibson teamed up for a 9-7 win.
Senior
Casey Runyan and freshman
Janelle Krantz recorded wins in the No. 5 and 6 singles matches, respectively, to close out The Rock points.
Runyan won by scores of 6-3, 6-2, while Krantz captured a 6-1, 6-1 win.
The Rock returns to the courts this weekend for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Championships in Shippensburg.
