BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Rock senior Kayla Blackburn advanced to the semifinal rounds in both the singles and doubles competitions of the rain-delayed Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Championships.
Blackburn and doubles partner Laura Handy, the No. 3 seeded duo in the tournament, won their first two "A" doubles matches by identical 8-6 scores. They then lost an 8-6 decision to the second-seeded California (Pa.) duo of Nina Kowalski and Galina Vishnikina in a semifinal match.
In "A" singles competition, Blackburn , the No. 3 seed, won her first three matches before she lost a 6-4, 6-4 decision to second-seeded Alina Stanila of California in a semifinal match.
The tournament was scheduled to run Saturday and Sunday, but was extended to Monday and eventually to today due to inclement weather.
The "B" singles and doubles competitions were cancelled after only a few matches had been played.
The Rock had five singles players and two doubles teams entered in the "B" draw but none of SRU's entries played any matches.
