Hilton Head Island, S.C.-The Rock won their third straight over spring break with a 5-4 win over the AshlandUniversity.
The Rock went 2-1 in doubles play and in singles action The Green and White split 3-3 for a 5-4 win on the day. The win Saturday moves SRU to 9-1 overall.
SRU's No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy won an 8-0 decision, the No. 2 duo of Samantha Blackburn and Jessica Hilborn came back with an 8-4 decision and the No. 3 team of Lara Rizzi and Chelsea Gibson fell by an 8-3 score.
The Rock won their first two matches in singles play as K. Blackburn won her No. 1 singles match winning the first set 6-3, then dropping the second set 3-6 and winning the super breaker 10-4. Handy won at No. 2 by 6-4, 7-6 scores; S. Blackburn ost in the No. 3 match by 6-3, 6-3 scores. Hilborn lost in the No. 4 match winning the first set 6-3, loosing the second set 6-3 and dropping the super breaking 10-8.
Rizzi lost the No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-3 and Gibson finished off the night with a win in the No. 6 singles match by 6-3, 6-3 scores.
The Green and White next match is set for March 10, at 8 a.m. when they take on EastStroudsburgUniversity at the Beach and Tennis Resort.
