HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.-The Rock continued their spring break winning ways with a 5-4 win over the University of North Carolina Pembroke.
After doubles play The Rock found themselves down 2-1, coming back to take singles play 4-2 for a 5-4 win on the day. The win Saturday moves SRU to 7-1 overall. The loss moves UNC-Pembroke to 5-5 on the year.
SRU's No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy lost an 8-4 decision, the No. 2 duo of Samantha Blackburn and Jessica Hilborn came back with an 8-0 decision and the No. 3 team of Lara Rizzi and Chelsea Gibson fell by an 8-2 score.
The Rock dropped their first two matches in singles play as K. Blackburn lost her No. 1 singles match by 6-3, 6-2 scores; Handy lost at No. 2 by 6-3, 6-2 scores; S. Blackburn came up big in the No. 3 match dropping the first set 2-6, winning the second set 6-1, and winning the super breaker 10-6. Hilborn won in the No. 4 match by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Rizzi won the No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-1 and Gibson finished off the night with a win in the No. 6 singles match by 6-3, 6-0 scores..
