Rock wins 7-2 decision over Lenoir-Rhyne College

Thursday night's win improved SRU's season record to 7-1

Hickory, NC-The Rock Started their spring break play with a 7-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne College.
 
SRU was scheduled to play Lenoir Rhyne College tomorrow, March 7, at 10 a.m. however bad whether in the forecast forced both teams to move their match ahead one day.
 
The Rock went two and one in doubles play and won five of six singles matches Thursday night to hand Lenoir-Rhyne College its second loss of the season moving their record to 2-2 on the year. The win moves SRU to 7-1 overall.

SRU's No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy rang up an 8-4 win, the No. 2 duo of Lara Rizzi and Jessica Hilborn lost an 8-3 decision and the No. 3 team of Chelsea Gibson and Christina Rhodes won by an 8-3 score.

K. Blackburn won her No. 1 singles match by 6-1, 7-5 scores; Handy won at No. 2 by 6-3, 6-2 scores; Samantha Blackburn played through injury coming up short to loose the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1, dropping the tiebreaker 6-3. Hilborn won in the No. 4 match by scores of 6-4, loosing 7-6, and winning the tiebreaker 8-6.

Rizzi won the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-2 and Gibson finished off the night with a win in the No. 6 singles match by 6-2, 6-0 scores.

The Green and White are off tomorrow, March 7, and will resume play in Hilton Head Island S.C. on Saturday, March 8, at 4 p.m. when they take on the University of North Carolina Pembroke.
