NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Rock swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches Friday night to hand hosting Walsh College an 8-1 setback on the Hall of Fame Courts.
SRU's No. 1 doubles team of
Kayla Blackburn and
Laura Handy rang up an 8-1 win, the No. 2 duo of
Lara Rizzi and
Jessica Hilborn won an 8-2 decision and the No. 3 team of
Casey Runyan and
Christina Rhodes reigned by an 8-3 score.
Blackburn then won her No. 1 singles match by 6-1, 6-0 scores; Handy won at No. 2 by 6-2, 6-1 scores; Hilborn took No. 3 by 6-3, 6-4 scores and Rizzi ruled in No. 4 by 6-2, 6-2 scores.
Walsh won the No. 5 singles match 6-4, 7-5 before Rhodes won No. 6 singles by 5-7, 6-1, 10-3 scores.
The win improved SRU's season record to 6-1. Friday's match was the season opener for Walsh.
The Green and White are idle until March 7, when they will visit Lenoir-Rhyne to open the annual spring break trip to Hilton Head Island. S.C.
